The book 20'000 Leagues Under The Sea is set under the sea's of 1866, and I could not think of a better setting for this book. The time period is one of breakthroughs, both scientifically and technologically, which fits perfectly with the sci-fi genre of the book. The underwater setting helps with mysterious tone of the book. We know very little about the oceans that rule our world, and it goes with the time period, we knew very little about anything, especially the sea, at the time this book takes place and it reflects how much we the readers know about captain Nemo. We know the basics and what's on the surface, but anything deeper than that we do not know a lot about. The setting of this book really helps set the mysterious, and adventurous mood of the book, with dangers of the deep lurking around every corner, questions piling up about the captains mysterious past.
