Contemporary Relevance

                   Technology is the modern society today. It is all around us, and is improving to better our lives. In modern day society, our love for technology and the search for knowledge have increased. People are fascinated by technology and what it can do for us. With technology, things we thought were impossible became a reality. Technology let us have longer life spans, let us explore places we never been before, and learn more about the planet we live on. With these technological advances our lives are becoming better and our knowledge is always expanding. We realize that with new technology we will become smarter about the things around us and our search for knowledge will be never ending.

                    In 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, we can see that technology played a huge role in the novel. In order for the plot to progress they needed to find the Nautilus, captain Nemo's sophisticated submarine. The technology it had far surpassed anything back in the time when the book was published, and still surpasses some of the technology we have today. The Nautilus helped professor Arronax discover more about the deep oceans of Earth. Arronax discovers more about the Earth we didn't know before. As a marine biologist this fascinated Arronax and expanded his knowledge of the ocean surface. Even though this may be fiction, it doesn't mean it is not possible because with technology anything is possible.
